I became a fan of the movies made from James Patterson's books long before I became fan of his actual writing. I stayed away mostly because of the negative reviews and well, the movies were so good. Three years ago, if memory serves, a friend talked me into getting one of his books. Since then, I haven't looked back. I've mostly read his standalones. The Mike Bennett series consists of this one and the first book, STEP ON A CRACK. If you haven't yet, start with the first.
In RUN FOR YOUR LIFE, Bennett, a recent widow struggles to raise his ten adopted children with the help of Seamus, his grandfather, and the young and pretty Mary Catherine, who we met in the first book. One by one, the kids are coming down with the flu. All the while, he's still dealing with the loss of his beloved wife, Maeve.
A new killer is on the loose who calls himself the Teacher. He's a chameleon of sorts as he changes his looks between each of his killings. His targets seem to be people who are rude, but he has a much more sinister agenda that doesn't become clear until towards the end. Until then, his killings were a bit random until the Teacher and Bennett meet on the phone. That's when the killings turn personal. Bennett soon finds himself the next target of a madman.
Like most of the Patterson books, I prefer the audio format. If you are into audio books, this was probably one of the best. Dallas Roberts makes a chilling voice of a killer and Bobby Cannavale captures the essence of Mike Bennett perfectly. The transition between cop and killer is so smooth. I absolutely loved the combination.

If you like a good mystery and enjoy authors such as Harlan Coben - this is a must read! James Patterson has done it again! With the funny and wonderful character in detective Mike Bennett, you travel from a crime scene to a hospital scene right in Bennets own living room as all 10 (yup 10) of his children battle the flu.
At times I was jumping out of my skin and at other times laughing out loud. An absolute must read for the people you know that love a really good story with a fascinating spin. |
My first Patterson book and definitely NOT my last!!!!

Believe it or not, this is the first James Patterson or Michael Ledwidge book that I have ever read. Let me tell you this: for non-Christian fiction, I am hooked!
This book was fun to read! It is an easy read full of twists and turns, making it a page turner! I literally read this book in one night. You can see the killer's way of thinking almost from the beginning, and that, mixed with the humor that Patterson and Ledwidge add to it, you will be laughing til your crying and on the edge of your seat with the suspense!
The one and only thing that I would change about this book is the language. Because James Patterson is such a talented author and I could see that in this book, I over look the language.
This is the second book in a series, and I, unfortunately did not get to read the first book. However, from what I have done research on, I don't think these books would need to be read in any particular order...they are good as a series or stand alones. But all in all, I rate this book with 4 stars and two thumbs and recommend it to all the Patterson fans out there! And I recommend it to all those who haven't read a Patterson book before....it will get you hooked!!
